Cefozon is used to treat bacterial infection of the respiratory tract, the abdomen and abdominal wall (peritonitis), the urinary tract, the female genital tract (endometritis, pelvic inflammatory disease), the blood (septicemia), and the skin and soft tissues.

Cefozon Description

A six carbon compound related to glucose. It is found naturally in citrus fruits and many vegetables. Ascorbic acid is an essential nutrient in human diets, and necessary to maintain connective tissue and bone. Its biologically active form, vitamin C, functions as a reducing agent and coenzyme in several metabolic pathways. Cefozon is considered an antioxidant.

Susceptible infections

Adult: As sodium: 2-4 g daily in 2 divided doses, increased to 12 g daily in 2-4 divided doses for severe infections given as deep IM or IV infusion.

Renal impairment: W/ hepatic impairment: 1-2 g daily.

Hepatic impairment: Max for hepatic impairment or biliary obstruction: 4 g daily. W/ renal impairment: 1-2 g daily.

Cefozon Interactions

Aminoglycosides

Increased risk of nephrotoxicity.

Anticoagulants (eg, heparin, warfarin)

Risk of bleeding may be increased.

Cyclosporine

Elevated cyclosporine levels with increased risk of toxicity may occur.

Incompatibility

Other antimicrobial drugs.
